This is a beautiful place on the California Central Coast — Moonstone Beach is near the quaint little community of Cambria. It is on the way to San Simeon and the world famous Hearst Castle. Moonstone is a world class Surfing destination, only for the experienced Surfer in a lot of areas. Swells can be as high as 7.5-8 feet and higher at times.

If you are an experienced Surfer you should include Moonstone in Cambria on your California Surf trip. You can also Surf at Pismo, Avila, Morro Bay, Cayucos and other areas on the Central Coast and locations in Santa Barbara, Malibu, Zuma, Huntington and Newport Beach to name a few places to check out. The River is what a lot of the regulars call this beautiful public golf course that is next to Lake Ming and the mighty Kern River. Country music legend Merle Haggard did own a home just up the road from this picturesque piece of California landscape.

Chet Foss was the head professional from the time the course was opened. Currently, the Foss family is still running the place with Jim Foss PGA Pro at the helm. Jim, the youngest Son of Chet, is a great teacher and student of the game. North Kern Golf Course, Inc. is an 18-hole regulation length golf course in Bakersfield, California. This medium-length layout features 4 sets of teeboxes for the enjoyment of golfers of all skill levels. Online tee times may be available at North Kern Golf Course, Inc. or at nearby golf courses, usually offered at a discount from the normal rate. The prices of the Kern County owned courses are very competitive with any you will find in California.

Mature Trees and Greens

The course is not extra long but has a lot of character with it’s mature tree lined fairways and spacious greens. Senior’s and Women’s tees make it a pleasure to play for all. North Kern also is well bunkered and has several difficult par 4 holes that balance out the shorter par 5 holes. The par 3′s are challenging with either having elevataed greens or being well bunkered.

North Kern Golf is a great place to learn the game or test your game if you are a seasoned player. The course record is a blistering 59 by Buena Vista Golf Course Professional Chad Sorensen. Kern River Golf Course is the 3rd course in the County of Kern golf course family, and you can get a monthly card to play the 3 great Kern County public courses.

North Kern has a Men’s and Women’s golf club with many tournaments through out the year. If you need to find new club or you are looking for a change, North Kern could be the place. Junior golfers are also welcome and have tournaments in the summer time. Bakersfield and Kern County schools also utilize this great public course that is a 20 minute drive from downtown Bakersfield.

Rio Bravo Country Club is just 15 minutes from Downtown Bakersfield, the Rio Bravo Country Club Golf Course offers a welcome contrast to the flat-land courses of the Valley floor. Rio Bravo Country Club is a private, member-only facility.

For starters, Rio Bravo Country Club features a championship 18-hole golf course sculpted out of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Mountain views and refreshing breezes serve as a natural backdrop to our greens, which are considered amongst the top 10 in California.

World-renowned golf course architect Robert Muir Graves designed the Rio Bravo Country Club Golf Course to work in harmony with its setting. So, you’ll discover a gently rolling terrain that creates a unique personality for each hole.

In addition, Rio Bravo Country Club meets championship standards. Our course measures 6,521 yards from the regular tees with a rating of 71.8; it stretches 7,000 yards from the championship tees with an impressive 73.9 rating. Our very fast greens are very well know for their quality.

Rio Bravo Country Club has been host to many PGA sanctioned tour events since the 1980′s. The Southern California Open has been held at this beautiful layout in Bakersfield and also may times stages of the PGA tour qualifying. Rio Bravo was the site for a couple of the Ben Hogan tour stops as well.
